Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She is also a seasoned public speech writer. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit educational site that explores female representations in popular culture narratives - is created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet world. Sarkeesian, who holds the degree of Master's in Political and Social thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a well-known public speakers. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. From an early age Sarkeesian was captivated with gender issues and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. The determined young woman was targeted online for launching a website featuring a series about gender and videogames. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feministism, she's awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women within pop media narratives.
