Gunn was born in Cleveland Ohio but moved at young age to brought up in Santa Fe New Mexico the daughter of Sharon Anna Kathryn Shana Gunn an interior designer as well as Clemens Earl Gunn Jr. who worked in the real estate industry. She was a graduate of Santa Fe Preparatory School in 1986. She was an actor in the theater department at Northwestern University and graduated with a degree in 1990.
